Second Marriage Law in the UAE

Married couples have valid promises to each other for the duration of their life or until they choose separation. The marriage contract needs to be filed in a Sharia court in the United Arab Emirates, in which marriage meets the legal requirements. In UAE marriage rules and procedures vary from religion to religion and nation to nation. After death or divorce, the first marriage ends, then the remarriage of one person is called the second marriage.

Legal requirements for getting married:
1: Age limitation: Both partners ( male and female) age should be 18+ or at least 18 to get married.
2: Two witnesses: For getting married in Dubai you need two witnesses, they have to prepare their identities.

These legal requirements vary from culturally and nationally.

Marriage license

  • For first marriage: UAE is a Muslim country. If you are Pakistani or belong to another country and want to marry in UAE then you need your birth certificate, your passport, and photocopies, witnesses’ passport and photocopies, UAE medical fitness certificate.
  • For second marriage:
(1) In divorce case: you need your birth certificate, your passport, and photocopies, witnesses’ passport and photocopies, UAE medical fitness certificate, divorce papers, and a former marriage certificate.
(2) In the spouse death case:  you need your birth certificate, your passport, and photocopies, witnesses’ passport and photocopies, UAE medical fitness certificate, death certificate of your previous spouse.

You can create your wedding certificate in either the English or Arabic version. This certificate needs further authentication by the Ministry of Justice (MOJ) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). After that paper will be ready.

In the UAE Islamic Marriage System:
According to Shari’a law groom should be Muslim. The Shariah has confirmed that no dowry agreement should be made.
